Wedding Ring Rescue From Eaton Fire
This ring has been through a lot. A couple weeks ago, I received this message:
“…in 2014 my wife bought for me your Hand-wrought Twisted Damascus Steel and Bourbon Barrel Wood Ring for my wedding band. It was special because of my love of knifemaking and whiskey. Fast forward to last month - we were devastated that we lost it, along with 99% of our belongings and our Altadena home in the Eaton fire. But on Saturday we miraculously found it, under a foot of rubble!”
I have pics here of its discovery, its nasty condition, and the restoration.
Initially, I was very excited to restore this ring to new condition; but instead the customer wanted to leave the charred exterior as untouched as possible. This is, of course, a totally rad idea, symbolism off the charts, and way better than making it new. I am happy to have helped, and happy with how it turned out.
