Kintsugi, an ancient Japanese art, celebrates the beauty of imperfection and resilience. The technique involves repairing broken objects with lacquer typically mixed with powdered gold. This modern take uses a durable, in-house 23k gold and resin amalgam, and it is inlaid in titanium. This not only highlights the fractures but transforms them into glistening veins of precious metal, creating a unique mosaic of historical, classic beauty. Kintsugi embodies the philosophy of embracing flaws as integral parts of an object’s story, symbolizing the beauty in healing and the strength found in fragility. This necklace, with its delicate porcelain restored by shimmering gold, becomes a wearable testament to the art’s profound aesthetic and cultural significance.

The origins of the particular transferware pattern of this porcelain are pretty interesting! The short version is this: the French word chinoiserie refers to the Chinese influence on European art. This pattern was originally created during the late 1700s in England to capitalize on the fashionability of East Asian decor. It was called “Blue WIllow,” and it is said to depict elements from a story of forbidden love.

The long version, a history upon which I cannot improve, can be seen here: https://thebrooklynteacup.com/blogs/blog/blue-willow-china-pattern

*Due to the nature of the porcelain material - taken from rounded materials like cups, plates, and bowls- it is possible for the porcelain to stick up over the margin of the pendant slightly. Inlaying a rounded piece into a flat pendant - it just can’t be avoided.
